Cécile Lecan earned a degree in History and Art history (Paris I – Panthéon Sorbonne), before going on to complete a master's degree in the history of the cultural heritage of the French Revolution. She then did her end of studies internship at the Carnavalet Museum dedicated to the history of Paris.

Although modern history (from the 15th to the 18th centuries) is her favorite field of work, she maintains an active interest in graphic arts : historical political cartoons, comics and animated films. Literature has a leading role in her work, as a form of art in and of itself, as well as a complement to historical research.
